I'll give this to mac Part 2>>
This is too sad. All during the primaries, whenever anybody dared to cross Obama, out of his campaign came the claim, "they're a racist." They spared no one, including a former President of the United States who did more for the African-American community than any president since Lincoln. No one said a word; the press bought the charges. In the Obama wake is also Geraldine Ferraro...and the list goes on and on. Now, here we go again, a story getting traction has to be stopped and what does the Obama camp do to get the charge of hubris and celebrity off the radar? They cry racism. And it works, as now we'll be labeling John McCain a racist for telling the truths: (1) Obama's celebrity is what has gotten him where he is (2) his ego knows no bounds. So, say what you will about John McCain, at least he has the courage to state the truth. OK, and maybe he's desperate. Nevertheless, what he says is true. JUST NEEDED TO SAY IT AGAIN.

There isn't a thing that he can't answer, any question he can't just wow you with in terms of his answer," Kennedy said.

Is BO afraid of hrc>>
Is it possible that BO is actually afraid of HRC? I'm beginning to think he's afraid of strong women. He seems to surround himself with "girlie-girls," the soft-spoken Pelosi, the lispy Claire MacCaskill. For all the hype of Michelle being a strong, independent woman, she seems to have chosen a more traditional role as wife and mother and abandoned true militancy. I was always amused to watch HRC and BO spar in the debates. Despite his tall and lanky structure he always seemed dwarfed against HRC. Apparently, his grandmother is a very strong woman who was the key breadwinner in her marriage and was the woman who took control of her grandson's life when his confused and I will go wherever I must to be with a man weak mother ran off to be with a man. It was the very same strong grandmother that BO threw under the bus when he made his speech on race. My point is that HRC could only be BO's Veep if polls leave him absolutely no other choice. And she won't be in his cabinet either. Look for the more manipulative type women to be a part of his administration. All, which, by the way, tells me that BO is one insecure man.

Bloomberg, Schwarzenegger and Ed Rendell urged both the
Republican and Democratic national committees to adopt
pro-infrastructure planks in their party platforms.
“America’s highways, bridges, tunnels, and mass transit have fallen behind. The same is true for our levees, schools, ports, courthouses and water delivery systems. Our economy and environment are suffering because we cannot move goods and people efficiently – we need a strong federal commitment to tackle this problem,” said Governor Schwarzenegger. “We have always come together as a nation to solve our biggest problems and I am confident that if both parties make infrastructure a top priority we will rebuild America with the pride and ambition that reflects the unlimited potential of our people.”
“The principles we are advocating will help our nation be more competitive in the global economy, ensure our environmental sustainability, enhance our citizens’ quality of life and improve public safety,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “They are good public policy and make sound business sense. We need to invest more in our infrastructure and those investment decisions need to be based on merit, not politics.”

It is surely getting ugly in the blogosphere>>
Those who once supported HRC and now support BO, those who won't support BO and those who are somewhere in the middle are hurling accusations at each other like a bunch of schoolyard kids. "You Republican!" "You're REALLY a Republican!" "She was a whore!" "I used to like her but now!" "I'll never go back to HER website!"
If the Democratic Party thinks it hasn't created a nightmare with it's complete disregard for Hillary Clinton's supporters and it's continued tone-deafness on what is only a bad situation getting worse, just start reading some of the comments on the left-wing blogs.
I posted a comment on one of those blogs the other day and was accused of being a Republican mole.
Gimme a break!
But I am of independent mind though politically I tend to lean left. I am NOT a partisan, as others are, voting blindly along party lines even as they readily admit that the candidate the Party has selected isn't quite up to the job. On the other hand, for those of you who would like to know, I can't remember ever having voted for a Republican, although that's not to say I wouldn't or won't.
The Democratic Party thinks all of these unhappy Dems will get over their anger at how the Party treated HRC and her supporters in time for the fall voting.
I think they are wrong. And I think that the Democratic Party will suffer great damage if strident voices such as the voice of Nancy Pelosi, Donnie Fowler and others don't change their tone.
The Party needs to offer those that feel that the Party has lost its way a real peace-offering, and SOON! They might start with assuring that HRC will be placed in nomination. It's unlikely that BO's ego will allow her to be his running-mate.
Or Denver just might wind up looking a whole lot like 1968, something Barack Obama should want to avoid.

give it to him katie>>
Katie Couric goes after BO tonight on the CBS Evening News over BO's resolute stand on the surge. Here's a portion. Give it to him, Ms. Couric.
Couric: But talking microcosmically, did the surge, the addition of 30,000 additional troops ... help the situation in Iraq?
Obama: Katie, as … you've asked me three different times, and I
have said repeatedly that there is no doubt that our troops helped
to reduce violence. There's no doubt.
Couric: But yet you're saying … given what you know now, you
still wouldn't support it … so I'm just trying to understand this.
Obama: Because … it's pretty straightforward. By us putting $10
billion to $12 billion a month, $200 billion, that's money that
could have gone into Afghanistan. Those additional troops could have
gone into Afghanistan. That money also could have been used to shore
up a declining economic situation in the United States. That money
could have been applied to having a serious energy security plan so
that we were reducing our demand on oil, which is helping to fund
the insurgents in many countries. So those are all factors that
would be taken into consideration in my decision-- to deal with a
specific tactic or strategy inside of Iraq.
Couric: And I really don't mean to belabor this, Senator,
because I'm really, I'm trying … to figure out your position. Do you
think the level of security in Iraq …
Obama: Yes.
Couric … would exist today without the surge?
Obama: Katie, I have no idea what would have happened had we
applied my approach, which was to put more pressure on the Iraqis to
arrive at a political reconciliation. So this is all hypotheticals.
What I can say is that there's no doubt that our U.S. troops have
contributed to a reduction of violence in Iraq. I said that-- not
just today, not just yesterday, but I've said that-- previously.
What that doesn't change is that we've got to have a different
strategic approach if we're going to make America as safe as
possible.

Well, now we know. Barack Obama is exactly like George W. Bush. He is unable to admit when he's wrong or nuance cleverly his way out of mistakes. The issue is the surge. No right-thinking person can deny it has been successful. Yes, there's more do, but the violence is way down and the parties are starting to work together, which was the goal of the surge. But asked about it and BO did his ritual hem and hawing when he didn't have the right answer, and instead of moving the issue forward made it an us (DEMS/BO) against them (REP/MAC). This tidbit from the al- Maliki interview>>
SPIEGEL: How short-term [a period of continued US troop presence]? Are you hoping for a new [security] agreement before the end of the Bush administration?
MALIKI: So far the Americans have had trouble agreeing to a concrete timetable for withdrawal, because they feel it would appear tantamount to an admission of defeat. But that isn't the case at all. If we come to an agreement, it is not evidence of a defeat, but of a victory, of a severe blow we have inflicted on al-Qaida and the militias. The American lead negotiators realize this now, and that's why I expect to see an agreement taking shape even before the end of President Bush's term in office. With these negotiations, we will start the whole thing over again, on a clearer, better basis, because the first proposals were unacceptable to us.

washpost's chris cillizza takes on>>
what he calls the surprising closeness of the race between BO and MAC. I don't think there's anything surprising about it. Cillizza and others were so blind to the truth of what was going on during the primaries that they missed the reality. Although BO became the Dems presumptive nominee, he didn't win the nod, he was appointed the nod. During the protracted primary season MAC managed to stay competitive, and, in fact, ahead in match-ups against BO and sometimes HRC, even with all the press the Dems were getting and MAC was not. Inside the Dem Party BO has yet to close the deal with many Dems, and outside the party, MAC has his legion of followers. The U.S. appears nearly as polarized now as in the last two cycles, even with Tush having made a mess of things.

with all the brouhaha over the New yorker piece>>
Make sure you read the accompanying story. It is filled with nuggets, some surprising. Here's a taste of what you'll find as uncovered by Ryan Lizza, this one a post-9/11 op-ed Obama wrote in the Hyde Park Herald:
"Even as I hope for some measure of peace and comfort to the bereaved families," Obama wrote, "I must also hope that we as a nation draw some measure of wisdom from this tragedy. Certain immediate lessons are clear, and we must act upon those lessons decisively. We need to step up security at our airports. We must reexamine the effectiveness of our intelligence networks. And we must be resolute in identifying the perpetrators of these heinous acts and dismantling their organizations of destruction.
"We must also engage, however, in the more difficult task of understanding the sources of such madness. The essence of this tragedy, it seems to me, derives from a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers: an inability to imagine, or connect with, the humanity and suffering of others. Such a failure of empathy, such numbness to the pain of a child or the desperation of a parent, is not innate; nor, history tells us, is it unique to a particular culture, religion, or ethnicity. It may find expression in a particular brand of violence, and may be channeled by particular demagogues or fanatics. Most often, though, it grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair.
"We will have to make sure, despite our rage, that any U.S. military action takes into account the lives of innocent civilians abroad. We will have to be unwavering in opposing bigotry or discrimination directed against neighbors and friends of Middle Eastern descent. Finally, we will have to devote far more attention to the monumental task of raising the hopes and prospects of embittered children across the globe—children not just in the Middle East, but also in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and within our own shores."

"None of the money raised will go to pay off Hillary Clinton's debts," Ed Chandler, a Chicago venture capitalist and Obama donor sent out in an e-mail last week promoting an intimate dinner with BO for high-dollar donors. Money raised above the individual limit will not go to HRC, but to the DNC, Mr. Chandler wrote. HRC supporters should be outraged and refuse to support BO until he and his campaign have a serious attitude adjustment. While HRC tirelessly campaigns for BO, he tirelessly continues to allow HRC to be demeaned. Enough! HRC supporters stand firm! For all their talk, the Democrats have not been good to women, not even with the first woman Speaker of the House, Nancy Do-Nothing Pelosis. Obama treated HRC during the primary with typical male disdain. Now BO needs women to get himself elected. A little late, BO. Women are sitting in a good position, courted by both BO and MAC. They should hold out for the best deal they can get by remaining neutral until Election Day. Let's see what these guy's come up with in campaign promises. But talk is cheap. Remarks of Senator Barack Obama:
(As prepared for delivery)
Tuesday, July 1, 2008
Zanesville, Ohio You know, faith based groups like East Side
Community Ministry carry a particular meaning for me. Because in a
way, they're what led me into public service. It was a Catholic
group called The Campaign for Human Development that helped fund the
work I did many years ago in Chicago to help lift up neighborhoods
that were devastated by the closure of a local steel plant. Now, I
didn't grow up in a particularly religious household. But my
experience in Chicago showed me how faith and values could be an
anchor in my life. And in time, I came to see my faith as being both
a personal commitment to Christ and a commitment to my community;
that while I could sit in church and pray all I want, I wouldn't be
fulfilling God's will unless I went out and did the Lord's work.
There are millions of Americans who share a similar view of their
faith, who feel they have an obligation to help others. And they're
making a difference in communities all across this country - through
initiatives like Ready4Work, which is helping ensure that
ex-offenders don't return to a life of crime; or Catholic Charities,
which is feeding the hungry and making sure we don't have homeless
veterans sleeping on the streets of Chicago; or the good work that's
being done by a coalition of religious groups to rebuild New
Orleans. You see, while these groups are often made up of folks
who've come together around a common faith, they're usually working
to help people of all faiths or of no faith at all. And they're
particularly well-placed to offer help. As I've said many times, I
believe that change comes not from the top-down, but from the
bottom-up, and few are closer to the people than our churches,
synagogues, temples, and mosques. That's why Washington needs to
draw on them. The fact is, the challenges we face today - from
saving our planet to ending poverty - are simply too big for
government to solve alone. We need all hands on deck. I'm not saying
that faith-based groups are an alternative to government or secular
nonprofits. And I'm not saying that they're somehow better at
lifting people up. What I'm saying is that we all have to work
together - Christian and Jew, Hindu and Muslim; believer and
non-believer alike - to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Now, I know there are some who bristle at the notion that faith has
a place in the public square. But the fact is, leaders in both
parties have recognized the value of a partnership between the White
House and faith-based groups. President Clinton signed legislation
that opened the door for faith-based groups to play a role in a
number of areas, including helping people move from welfare to work.
Al Gore proposed a partnership between Washington and faith-based
groups to provide more support for the least of these. And President
Bush came into office with a promise to "rally the armies of
compassion," establishing a new Office of Faith-Based and Community
Initiatives. But what we saw instead was that the Office never
fulfilled its promise. Support for social services to the poor and
the needy have been consistently underfunded. Rather than promoting
the cause of all faith-based organizations, former officials in the
Office have described how it was used to promote partisan interests.
As a result, the smaller congregations and community groups that
were supposed to be empowered ended up getting short-changed. Well,
I still believe it's a good idea to have a partnership between the
White House and grassroots groups, both faith-based and secular. But
it has to be a real partnership - not a photo-op. That's what it
will be when I'm President. I'll establish a new Council for
Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. The new name will reflect
a new commitment. This Council will not just be another name on the
White House organization chart - it will be a critical part of my
administration. Now, make no mistake, as someone who used to teach
constitutional law, I believe deeply in the separation of church and
state, but I don't believe this partnership will endanger that idea
- so long as we follow a few basic principles.
First, if you get a federal grant, you can't use that grant money to
proselytize to the people you help and you can't discriminate
against them - or against the people you hire - on the basis of
their religion. Second, federal dollars that go directly to
churches, temples, and mosques can only be used on secular programs.
And we'll also ensure that taxpayer dollars only go to those
programs that actually work. With these principles as a guide, my
Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships will
strengthen faith-based groups by making sure they know the
opportunities open to them to build on their good works. Too often,
faith-based groups - especially smaller congregations and those that
aren't well connected - don't know how to apply for federal dollars,
or how to navigate a government website to see what grants are
available, or how to comply with federal laws and regulations. We
rely too much on conferences in Washington, instead of getting
technical assistance to the people who need it on the ground. What
this means is that what's stopping many faith-based groups from
helping struggling families is simply a lack of knowledge about how
the system works. Well, that will change when I'm President. I will
empower the nonprofit religious and community groups that do
understand how this process works to train the thousands of groups
that don't. We'll "train the trainers" by giving larger faith-based
partners like Catholic Charities and Lutheran Services and secular
nonprofits like Public/Private Ventures the support they need to
help other groups build and run effective programs. Every house of
worship that wants to run an effective program and that's willing to
abide by our constitution - from the largest mega-churches and
synagogues to the smallest store-front churches and mosques - can
and will have access to the information and support they need to run
that program. This Council will also help target our efforts to meet
key challenges like education. All across America, too many children
simply can't read or perform math at their grade-level, a problem
that grows worse for low-income students during the summer months
and afterschool hours. Nonprofits like Children's Defense Fund are
working to solve this problem. They hold summer and afterschool
Freedom Schools in communities across this country, and many of
their classes are held in churches. There's a lot of evidence that
these kinds of partnerships work. Take Youth Education for Tomorrow,
an innovative program that's being run by churches, faith-based
schools, and others in Philadelphia. To help narrow the summer
learning gap, the YET program hires qualified teachers who help
students with reading using proven learning techniques. They hold
classes four days a week after school and during the summer. And
they monitor progress closely. The results have been outstanding.
Children who attended a YET center for at least six months improved
nearly 2 years in reading ability. And the average high school
student gained a full grade in reading level after just three
months. That's the kind of real progress that can be made when we
empower faith-based organizations. And that's why as President, I'll
expand summer programs like this to serve one million students. This
won't just help our children learn, it will help keep them off the
streets during the summer so they don't turn to crime. And my
Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships will also have
a broader role - it will help set our national agenda. Because if we
are going to do something about the injustice of millions of
children living in extreme poverty, we need interfaith coalitions
like the Let Justice Roll campaign standing up for the powerless. If
we're going to end genocide and stop the scourge of HIV/AIDS, we
need people of faith on Capitol Hill talking about how these
challenges don't just represent a security crisis or a humanitarian
crisis, but a moral crisis as well. We know that faith and values
can be a source of strength in our own lives. That's what it's been
to me. And that's what it is to so many Americans. But it can also
be something more. It can be the foundation of a new project of
American renewal. And that's the kind of effort I intend to lead as
President of the United States.
