ABOUT HILLARY
Clinton hater Dick Morris has a piece today, 'The Incredibly Shrinking Hillary.' In it he says that both Clintons have been marginalized by Obama. She having taken the position of SoS, but then her position diminished by the appointment of strong envoys to hotspots. He having been neutered by Hillary's position and his agreement to curb his money-making abilities. Morris goes on to say that Hillary is the least powerful SoS of modern times. But all this could change if Obama's popularity should falter.
Of course, the other side to the story is that HRC has an inside look at the machinations of the Obama administration. Eventually, that knowledge will pay off, no doubt. Another thing, Time is on Hillary's side. Sooner or later, Obama is going to take a misstep, all president's do. And there Hillary will be ready to make her move. One thing Hillary has that Obama doesn't is patience. Obama couldn't wait to be president; he had to go for the big job now, even if he wasn't quite ready. She, as we all know, has exhibited extraordinary patience in all aspects of her life, particularly in matters concerning her indomitable husband, Bill.
No, Mr. Morris, your piece has been written too early in the game. Of course, if Dick Morris doesn't write about the Clintons, nobody is reading him. And since not much is being written about the Clintons these days, keep on writing Mr. Morris. You only help Hillary maintain her power with each article you post! LINK

OXYMORON
In a statement with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at his side, Prez. Obama said that the United States is a friend to Israel and then continued to put the squeeze on PM Netanyahu to stop the building of settlements in the West Bank, clearly an oxymoron, since no 'friend' of Israel would make any such demand, a demand that in the long run would lead to compromising Israel's security and to a Two-More-State-Solution. POTUS asked Abbas to rein in the violence on Israel, which is funny considering that the violence is coming from Hamas, which doesn't answer to Abbas who is nothing but a titular leader. LINK

OBAMA'S DELIMNA
Yesterday, in response to Bibi Netanyahu's move to dismantle rogue settlements, was met by a hardline stance voiced by SoS Hillary Clinton saying complete dismantling of settlements in the West Bank would be insisted upon by the Obama Administration. What scribes and political pontificators are missing is that what the Obama Administration is doing is trying to keep the Arabs happy. Israel is expendable in the wake of OPEC threats to raise the price of oil to $80 a barrel, a number that grows exponentially as the days get closer to Obama's trip to the Middle East. What Obama faces should the Arabs raise the price of oil is political Armageddon, as does the world economy. In other words, the POTUS is being held hostage by the Arabs.

MY WEEKLY RESPONSE TO FOOLISH ROGER COHEN
This week Roger Cohen suggests that the US and Bibi Netanyahu back off from Iran and allow them to continue with a monitored pilot uranium enrichment program rather than having Israel, on behalf of the world, take military action to slow down, if not stop, Iran's procurement of a nuclear weapon.
Cohen suggests this would be a better course of action than risking the ire of the Persians and the Arabs against Israel (although Israel has lived with the ire of the Arabs and Persians throughout her existence) and the US.
The US, of course, finds itself between a rock and an oil gusher thanks to years of our leaders ignoring the power the oil rich states were amassing over America and the rest of the world.
But once the genie of a nuclear powered Iran is out of the bottle, there is no turning back. Therefore, Israel is correct. If the US won't, Israel can and must set Iran's nuclear program back long enough for America to find the means to power itself without Middle East oil, and long enough for Israel to gain ground in her defense.
The ace in the hole is that the Arab states no more want a nuclear powered Iran than Israel or the US.
The current meme that peace in the Middle East is contingent upon an accord between the Palestinians and the Israeli's is bogus. First deal with Iran, which will change the dynamics between the Arabs and Israelis. In fact, if the Israelis stop Iran, or at least slow it down, the Arabs might have to rethink their position towards Israel.
No, Roger Cohen, once Iran is nuclear powered all options are off the table. The balance of power in the Middle East would be completely altered, which would certainly not be good for Israel, surely not for the Arab states, and could prove an immeasurable headache to the US and the rest of the world.
Don't believe me? Think North Korea and Kim Jong-il.

A WORD TO OBAMA
The Arabs are afraid of a powerful Iran. The Arabs want Israel to give the Palestinians their own state-s. Then, of course, there are the issues that have to do with Syria and Lebanon. Next week, POTUS visits the Middle East. This week, OPEC is starting to throw their weight around. Oil prices rose to a six-month high near $64 a barrel on Wednesday after Saudi Arabia, OPEC's biggest member, said the global economy had strengthened enough to cope with oil at $75 to $80 a barrel. This, of course, on the heels of Obama's visit.
OPEC has been gauging the world on oil prices, and there are many who feel that the surge in the price of oil last summer had more to do with the world economic meltdown than reported. And, now, here they go again.
If the Arab's want Iran contained and the Palestinians to have their own state, then POTUS needs to pressure OPEC to stop its games with the price of oil. He needs to tell OPEC that there is a time to focus on profits, and this is not that time.
Of course, Tush tried, and Big Dick did, too, to no avail. Let's see if Obama is more effective against OPEC than his predecessors, the slick bunch!

RE: SOTOMAYER
Ms. Sotomayer has no record on the controversial subject of abortion. She, is, however, a Catholic. Did Obama nominate Sotomayer to the Court, her selection equal to his history of voting present? Smart move, if he did, as he comes out looking like a president who made a smart choice and got his nominee confirmed with little fight. Bad choice if you're pro-choice. NOW came out in favor of Sotomayer's nomination within minutes of Obama's announcement. Do they know something that the rest of us don't? I can't wait for the hearings!

FALLING HOME PRICES
As home prices continue to fall and foreclosures escalate now beginning to effect middle-to-upper class borrowers, the Obama Administration does little to help Mr. and Mrs. America. Today's numbers, showing an 18.7 percent decline in American home prices, shows how little Obama's policy is addressing the root problem of the housing industry. Until the foreclosures are stopped, your house and mine will continue to lose value. The banks have been "bailed-out" and have not returned their good fortune over to Americans...as if anyone really expected anything different from the banks or this administration, like others before it, being run by the lobbyists so real pressure is not put on the banking institution. I'm just saying, and so are others... LINK

NY TIMES PUBLISHES MORE DRIBBLE
An Op-Ed piece, 'Have We Already Lost Iran?' was written by two apparent anti-Israel bozos. Still, it's worth the read because it is the manifesto for the new left who believe that the only way to solve our Middle East problems and mollify terrorists is to completely capitulate to and embrace thug nation Iran -- nuclear capabilities, terrorist-generating country that it is. They dare to raise Richard Nixon's embracing China as an example of taking a long-time enemy and making it a friend. What, one has to ask, is the comparison? China-Iran? Hm. There is more that annoyed me about this piece, but it is Sunday morning. I'll spare you all my ire. But I urge you to read the piece. LINK
UPDATE: Add this dribble from Newsweek's Fareed Zakaria, an Iran apologist. LINK What he says is simply put, stupid. Are there any editors working for these news organizations anymore? I mean, really!

PHOTO OF THE DAY
You might say that Specialist Zachary Boyd got the pants scared off of him when fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan. But, since he's one of our brave soldiers, we know that can't be true. Rather, was enjoying a well-deserved sleep when his post in eastern Afghanistan came under enemy attack. He immediately grabbed his rifle and rushed into a defensive position clad in his helmet, body armor, and pink boxer shorts that said 'I Love New York.' God love him.

GALLUP POLL SUSPICIOUS
A newly released Gallup Poll says more people are "pro-life" than pro-choice, 51-42% as opposed to when 50% were pro-choice and 44% pro-life only recently. Prior to now, the highest percentage identifying as pro-life was 46%, in both August 2001 and May 2002. The reason this is suspicious is obvious. Of course, everyone is 'pro-life" so depending on how questions are asked the findings vary. Pro-choice advocates are also pro-life. This poll, as I say, suspicious, will no doubt be fodder for the Christian right's cause. And with the announcement, soon, of a nominee for the Court by President Obama, the only criteria ever considered for this most important job these days being whether the candidate is for or against abortion, this will surely fuel an unnecessary fire.

THE DISGRACE CONTINUES
How does the senate justify voting down limits on credit-card interest rates? They don't. They can't. The vote today was a stamp on what the cynics have cried for years: our Senators have been bought by big business, by lobbies, by, by and by. That the president is allowing this to continue is truly a disgrace. He has said all along he would bailout Wall Street and Main Street. And the bailout for Main Street is what?! Anyone see the foreclosure rate for April today? No, the president may have brought "fun and culture" back to DC, but as a leader, he's just the same old thing. LINK

NY TIMES EDITORIAL
More left-wing gibberish coming from the editorial pages of the NY Times this a.m. the headline: "An Agenda for Mr. Netanyahu." More of the same that all concessions have to come from the Israeli's blah, blah, blah and not a word about the Palestinians. But read between the lines and find the truth as to what is motivating the left-wingers: FEAR. Fueling the new Obama Administration Middle East policy is fear of al Qaeda, with a lot of respect for a nuclear-armed Iran. But it is mostly al Qaeda.
While surely we all know the devastation wrought by the terrorist organization and the further damage they can do (Pakistan), the Obama administration seems to think that by making peace with the Palestinians, al Qaeda will be stripped of its reason for existence. Naive thinking at best. Moreover, a position that boldly asks Israel to be the sacrificial lamb.
But that is not my issue this morning. It is that "fear" that I find so inappropriate. Never in my lifetime can I remember an administration so clearly motivated by fear, a weakness, rather than by a bold strategy.
There is a huge difference in the characters of Obama and Netanyahu. They come, probably out of their personal life experiences, from opposite sides of the poles. Netanyahu is a realist, and Obama is a dreamer.
What has happened in Gaza since the Israeli's gave the Gazan's their own state to rule is a good example of the clash of a dream and reality. Hope is turned to devastation. The Gazan's got what they wanted, their anger should have been turned to a positive agenda according to the thinking behind the Obama administration's Middle-East policy. But instead what happened is the natives turned inward, let the rabble rousers (Hamas = Hezbollah = al Qaeda) gain control. Why wouldn't the same happen in a State in the West Bank leaving Israel surrounded by legally-armed terrorists?
No, the solution to the problems in the Middle East should not be that proposed by the dreamers. Instead the solution should be one directed by realistic measures. It shouldn't be about land for peace. It should be about peace for land.
Or in the vernacular: Palestinians, show Israel the money!

ISRAEL AS KING
There's an enlightening piece on Bibi Netanyahu in Time that points out that the maturing PM of Israel is more practical than people think that he is. There's also a wonderful quote from Obama said to have been made on his meeting with Netanyahu last summer. "I'm perceived as coming from the left, and you're perceived as coming from the right. But we're both more practical than people give us credit for," Obama said.
Here's what I'm thinking: While our president struggles to tamp down Arab hate of America, he sees Israel as the path to America's security. The admin is coming down hard on our ally. I don't like seeing Obama use Israel as a pawn in a political chess game.
On the other hand, Netanyahu, therefore, has more power in this game simply because Obama has made Israel so crucial to the win for America: Arabs that will work with America on oil costs and more importantly, an ending the terrorism wrought by al Qaeda.
Bibi is due here May 18th. Isn't the move in his court? King Abdullah is threatening war if Israel doesn't give the Arab league what they want. Clearly, he understands the stakes, and that it's Israel's move giving Israel control over Obama and Abdullah. No Israel, no deal.
As I said, Israel as King.

FIRST YOU LAUGH AND THEN YOU CRY
"Peace now, or war next year," Jordan's King Abdullah threatens in the London Times today. Now the spokesperson for the Israeli-Palestinian accords, Abdullah, whose wife is a Palestinian, spoke to the London Times, he said taking time off from his busy schedule with the visiting Pontiff. I posted the story on the news page but I will link it here as well.
According to the little king, here is the agreement that the Arab league is proposing. Read and laugh at the unbelievably pathetic and uneven proposal apparently the Obama administration wants Israel to sign on to. From the article:
The King travels today to Damascus to urge President Assad to join the Arab efforts to seek a settlement with Israel, based on the Arab peace plan adopted in 2002. Brokered by the Americans, this would be the most comprehensive deal attempted since the opening of the Madrid conference in 1991. It would offer Israel immediate benefits, such as entry visas to every Arab country, the right of El Al, Israel’s national airline, to overfly Arab territory, and the eventual recognition of Israel by all 57 members of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.
In return, the Israelis would have to put an immediate stop to the building and expansion of settlements and agree to withdraw from territories occupied since 1967. The two most sensitive issues — the future status of Jerusalem and the right of return by Palestinians who fled in 1948 — would be negotiated within the framework of the peace plan.
There's more. King Abdullah, who has become chummy-chummy with Prez Obama, despises Bibi Netanyahu. And according to the world as Abdullah sees it, there is no peace strictly at the fault of the Israelis. Don't you just love rewrites?
So, the situation is starting to look a little different than perhaps POTUS would want. King Abdullah is starting to make Obama look like his personal boy toy-- and worse, that Abdullah is calling the shots. So my question for our President is: Is this how you want to look?
UPDATE: More evidence Obama plans to throw Israel under the bus. LINK

ISRAEL DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT OBAMA
Haaretz reports that "Senior officials in Jerusalem expressed concern
recently over the sharp decline in the coordination between Israel and the
United States on security and state affairs since President Barack Obama's
entered the White House and especially since the formation of Israel's new
government.
Senior White House officials told their Israeli counterparts that Obama will
demand Netanyahu completely suspend construction in the settlements, the
officials said." LINK
As I predicted would happen (http://tinyurl.com/pyds7m), it appears that President Obama has decided that the way to a more secure America and the path to a vital American economy can only be achieved by selling out Israel. The Oil Cartel wants two new Palestinian states (Gaza the West Bank) and in return they keep the price of a barrel of oil in check. Obama throws Israel under the bus. The Arab states want Iran neutered. Obama cuts a deal with Iran, screw Israel. He rewrites history, the infidels are the Israeli’s, now with the moniker given by Jimmy Carter, Israel, The Apartheid State, which makes the Islamic world happy. So thinks our new quixotic president…so let’s all join hands and sing, “When the moon was is in the seventh house and jupiter aligns with mars, then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars…” Tra la la, we’ve entered Obama’s Age of Aquarius. Shalom which means hello, peace, and ta-ta. Kaboom.
By the way, standing strongly behind Obama is not only Hillary Clinton, but Jews David Axelrod and Rham Emanuel, not to mention the American Jewish community at-large. What are they thinking? It's the 1930's returned.

SOMETHING OBAMA IS DOING RIGHT
I know, I know. It's a national holiday. I'm taking the time to say Pres. Obama is doing something right, which I rarely do. Actually, I think domestically, he's doing just fine. It's his foreign policy that's pathetic. But about the specific reason I'm taking the time to commend POTUS, and that is his depoliticizing of religion in the public sphere. For instance, today is National Prayer Day and the President could have "played" the day for the typical photo op recent presidents have played it for, but he didn't. He also does not make a big deal about attending church every Sunday. And, that is a good thing, something the Republican Party ought to learn from, but won't. So, hat's off to BO for getting something right. All you readers of mine, don't have a heart attack.

OBAMA'S QUIXOTIC APPROACH TO THE MIDDLE-EAST
I wonder that scribes like Matthew Iglesias see Israel as a rogue nation and treat The Jewish State as somehow equal to the likes of a terrorist "nation" such as Iran? Hi repeated comments on Israel wreak of the same rot as that of the Obama administration whose approach to the Middle East discord rests in the re-branding of Israel as an Apartheid Nation singularly the cause for the rise of al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Palestinian problem, the high price of oil, the Middle East arms race and all the hatred the United States suffers for teaming in the past with a lawful nation who does what nations do - a the US did - when it stands up against thugs. Israel is a problem for the US, but only in the respect that as long as there is a Jewish nation there will always be those who use it to get at America through the pawn known as Israel. That won't change by making absurd deals (as if this is possible) with the Arabs-Palestinians-Islamic terrorists and the others named above. And certainly, peace will not come by stripping the Israeli's of nuclear protection. In the end, the US will have sold out its one true friend for a short-term gain? to lie in the muck with the devil. There is no such thing as a deal with the devil. The definition of the devil? He that believes that life is of no value.

The sooner the better. Did Bibi blink, or realize that he is better off going along with the program, nullifying the negative talk about Israel bubbling from the world, and working on the negotiations from the inside out, playing, stalling and whatever else he needs to do to negotiate a settlement Israel can live with? Sooner or later the naive Obama team is about to learn what deal making is truly like when negotiating with Palestinians and Arabs.

ELIZABETH EDWARDS
Why is Elizabeth Edwards speaking publically about her husband, John Edwards' affair with Rielle Hunter? What is the point? Why bring the smarmy back into the news? The terminally ill victim of her husband's affaire d'loins doesn't need the money, or the fame the book will bring her. What more can Mrs. Edwards offer to other women who find themselves in a similar position? Apparently, Mrs. Edwards is furious and is very insecure and feels the need to get the public on her side. Frankly, she only looks weak to me, hardly the dignified woman that I once thought her to be. And is all this discussion fair to the Edwards' children? Well, it takes to to tango or not, and the Edwards' have their dance, he had his with Ms. Hunter. I wish they'd all just go dancing in the dark.
