Hillary
Clinton may be a tough cookie but she’s as soft as a Nabisco Nutter
Butter when it comes to accepting abuse.
Why else would she announce a joint appearance with the Oreo man, Barack
Obama, on the high-heels of his having anointed – her cup runneth over
with revenge – Patti Solis Doyle to be his new Chief of Staff to the
Vice Presidential nominee.
Señora Solis Doyle, for those who don’t know, was Hillary Clinton’s
campaign manager before she was jettisoned from her position after
squandering HRC’s financial lead, as well as her win, with bad
decisions that included authorizing the frivolous purchase of such things as
thousands of dollars worth of shovels -- among other
badly thought out missives -- when it wasn’t even forecast to snow in Iowa
the night of the Iowa Caucuses.
One can see why it was no Ginger snap decision by Mrs.
Clinton to oust her longtime friend from her position.
Yet, despite Señora Solis Doyle’s Snackwell’s deal with the
Devil-food-cookies, Tuesday, or his with her, it was reported that the
two Senators would be together in Washington where Clinton would try and
persuade her top donors to write big checks to the Democrack-up Party’s
presumptive nominee.
The June 26 event will be the first to bring together the annointed and
the dissed from the Democratic primary race and put their pledges of
unity for the fall campaign into action. A joint public appearance also
is in the works, insiders said.
What's up with Hillary Clinton? Does she have no pride?
She just got the Keebler Vienna finger from Barack Obama and in less
than twenty-four hours she announces she will be working toward getting
her Rival dog food elected? Just the thought makes me want to binge on a
bagful or two or three of Pepperidge Farm Milanos.
Many of the same donors who Hillary will be asking to support the
presidential run of that chocolate chip on his shoulder, Barack Obama,
were quick to voice their discomfort with the Obama Campaign’s
announcement of Solis Doyle’s new F**k U job role.
"It's a slap
in the face," Susie Tompkins Buell, a prominent Clinton backer, said in
an interview. "Why would they put somebody that was so clearly
ineffective in such a position? It's a message. We get it." She said it
was a "calculated decision" by the Obama team to "send a message that
she [Clinton] is not being considered for the ticket."
Other Clinton
insiders also seethed. "Who can blame Obama for rewarding Patti? He
would never be the nominee without her," one person who has worked for
both Clintons and remains close to them said. The sentiment reflected
what another person in the immediate Clinton orbit described as "shock"
that Obama would send such a strong signal that he is not considering
Clinton as his running-mate so soon.
Others had
things to say that are not repeatable here.
But here was
Clinton’s response to the appointment, a Gerber Zwieback milquetoast of
a response.
“Patti will be an asset and good addition to the Obama campaign. After
nearly two decades in political life, she [Patti Solis Doyle] brings
with her the ability to tap an extensive network that will be a huge
asset to Senator Obama. As Senator Clinton has said, we’re all going to
do our part to help elect Senator Obama as the next President of the
United States," said spokesman Mo Elleithee.
Of course there is party unity to consider. And surely Senator Clinton
is thinking about her future. But does she not deserve respect from that
un-healthy choice of a nominee?
Obama continues sending Mrs. Clinton lime zinger cookies and Mrs. Clinton just seems
to let them simply Brownie-roll off her back.
When does staying power become self-victimization?
Although Clinton won’t be the party’s nominee, she did manage to walk
away from this bruising campaign as the most powerful woman in America.
She is a role model for young girls and women worldwide.
The lesson of
fortitude is surely an important lesson to teach. Unity and commitment,
as in Hillary Clinton’s decision to keep her family intact and remain in
her marriage despite her husband’s serial philandering, are deep moral
equations to fathom.
But when does such fortitude become something else?
I hate to be the one to open up that cookie jar for discussion. But I
think the question is food for thought.
