Hi-dee-ho here we go a Democratic Party convention all fluff and no
substance, a rolling stone of ideas gathering no moss but bloated
with self-aggrandizement. After all, on Thursday, the party of ideas
and no action is about to be the first to break the race barrier and
nominate an African-American as their party’s nominee. Everyone’s
backs are bruised from the en masse tapping of self-praise. Did you
ever meet a liberal who didn’t get his/her jets off by breaking down
social barriers?
The Democratic Party, the Feel-Good Party of no ideas less action
but hi-dee-ho on social issues. OK, not all bad.
But despite the once bruising now charming
Michelle Obama speech and the perfectly saccharine follow-up
familial conversation with a wrinkled-shirted Barack Obama and his
well-coiffed and understated wife Michelle (O so Jackie O in style
and maybe even
substance) and the two picture-perfect children right out of a
Hollywood casting studio en play - a conversation the most scripted
non-scripted piece of theater ever, there remains that problem that
one little hi-dee-ho dilemma plaguing
the Democratic Party.
The dilemma comes in the form of Hillary
Clinton, and her husband the former President of the United States
Bill Clinton even if Barack Obama would have you think otherwise.
Hi-dee-ha-ha.
It must have been driving Barack Obama mad, literally, to watch the
convention coverage last night. No questions about Obama, scant
air-time other than the proverbial nod to the courageous and
possibly life-threatening appearance of his mentor, the ailing Ted
Kennedy there to take the focus off the Clinton drama and put it
back on the presumptive nominee and himself, in his poignant and
unthinkable Kennedy last hurrah.
But still the talk was all Hillary and all Bill
all the time. Not an interview started without the proverbial
Clinton question. “Why do you think it is it’s taking so long for
Hillary Clinton supporters to come around to Senator Obama,” Ann
Curry asked. And then on and on and on, all the interviewers, all
relentless, goading the interviewees to answer the Clinton question
the interviewers facing the forced smiles of the aggravated party
elite revealing 10,000 dollar white clenched Chicklet teeth maybe
finally realizing that the little problem that they were sure would
go away, hadn’t. And hi-dee-ho, if not soon addressed and nipped in
the bud could very likely cost Barack Obama the election.
As this melodrama played out in the
Mile-Hi-Dee-Ho city, the directors of the play, the Clintons, were
having a hi-dee-ho field day with the nubile Obama team who had once
looked so brilliant and now were being played on Convention opening
night like a well-tuned cello in the hands of Yo-Yo-Ma-hi-dee-ho.
Beginning last week with the naming of Obama’s
vice-presidential pick, when team Clinton let it be known that
Hillary had never been vetted despite Obama’s repeated alluding to
the fact that she was being vetted because, “Hillary would be on
anyone’s shortlist,” to Clinton surrogates such as Ed Rendell going
on-air and everywhere deriding the media and particularly MSNBC for
it’s pro-Obama biased coverage of the primaries just in time to
further inflame HRC’s already inflamed supporters, to word leaking
out most probably from the Camp Clinton yesterday that BO was trying
to muzzle the former President and what he could talk about in his
Wednesday night speech, which forced BO to stand on a hot airport
tarmac in order to diffuse Bill Clinton’s accusations, the Clintons
have been on a PR tear.
“I
said, "Mr. President you can say whatever you like,” Obama recounted
his conversation with Clinton to the press. “Bill Clinton is a
unique figure in our politics... It wouldn’t make sense to me to try
and edit his remarks.”
Well, it might not make sense to try and edit
the former President’s remarks, but hi-dee-ho, Obama did. And now he
was being forced to kiss you know whose you know what in praise when
the praise should have been being lavished on him and his you know
what.
And as if that weren’t enough there then began the clamoring over
the roll call vote. The Obama Camp was getting nervous about it.
Would Hillary wind up with too many votes? The backroom talks
ensued, which resulted in today’s announcement that the Clinton and
Obama camps agreed to limit Wednesday's potentially divisive
nominating process for president, allowing some states to cast votes
for both Obama and Clinton before ending the roll call in an
acclamation for the
Illinois senator.
But last night it got even better, from Nancy Pelosi to Michelle
Obama, everyone kissing you know who else’s you know what in praise,
and then back to those interviews and take it to the present, and
today, again, the news is all Hillary all the time from the MSM to
the Looney tunes cable channels to the blogosphere both left and
right.
It’s Hi-Dee-Ho Hillary Day and tonight is Hillary Clinton’s big
speech.
Everyone wants to know, will she go all out for Obama or only do
what is necessary, which is a ridiculous question because of course
she will do whatever it takes to get Obama elected. She wants to
keep her options open for a future presidential run and the only way
to do that is to play according to Party rules.
She can do that, no problem, because after all, Hillary has Bill and
her many surrogates and supporters to undermine Barack Obama’s
chances for becoming president.
But better still, she’s got Barack Obama, who
may have out-maneuvered the Clintons in their bid for the party’s
presidential nomination, but who, in his first battle with the
opposition, lost, and lost hi-dee-ho-O-so Obama Big!
